Recently, this year's winners of the international photo competition "Glanzlichter“ we honoured - I am very proud to be among the winners again, now for the fifth time 😀
This year, almost 20,000 images were submitted by photographers from 34 countries around the world. In the category "The Beauty of Plants", I finally managed to be among the winners with a picture from my winter birch series.
I called this picture "Winter Light" - and I can still remember this particular morning very well - the light was already shining in spots through the forest on this cold morning and as I had already been working on this series for a few weeks, I knew quite well from which point of view certain spots of light in this heath landscape looked interesting. The filigree birch trees fascinate me, especially in winter. In the end, I was very pleased with the result.
Like every year, the pictures are now being exhibited in museums and nature parks on a kind of "roadshow". If you are interested, you can see the whole series of winter birches here:
Many thanks to the organisers, the organising team, the jury and the many sponsors, for this category it was Nikon. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the award ceremony at the Nature Photography Days in Fürstenfeldbruck next Friday, as we are also travelling to the nature of Mallorca this April.
Incidentally, I'm also keen to take part in future competitions again - I had actually decided in 2017 to always take part in the 6 biggest competitions in Europe, but in the last two years I've largely lacked the time to do so. I was particularly annoyed about me in terms of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year - I didn't manage to take part for 3 years. Once I had even scheduled time for the evening of the last submission day - it's just stupid when the deadline expires at noon 🤦♂️ (which is not the case with all the other European competitions).
Well, in any case, I've decided to throw my hat into the ring more often again 😉 PS, if you want to see the winning image larger, just click on it and see it at 2400px...
The next blog entry will be at the beginning of May when we are back from Spain 🖐
Until then, have a great spring!
Many greetings,
Thomas
