Herzlich Willkommen

"Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop".

Thomas

So this is about photography, that can be guessed quickly 😉. How did that come about?

In 2008, I - born in 79` - wanted to produce some decent photos with my great passion, windsurfing, after having used digital compact and bridge cameras for many years. That's how I got my first high-quality camera, combined with a telephoto lens. In the first year I had many days of use and found more and more fun with this photo system, especially in nature. Since then, the element of water has also played a major role in my photography.

The first years I ended up working a lot with hardware as well as photography techniques, mainly in wildlife photography. Back in 2009, I bought my first "super telephoto" lens and became very involved with bird photography. The focus was mostly on finding subjects and imaging them as large, sharp and detailed as possible.

Since 2013 I would gradually call the way I handle the camera photography 😅 A hobby became passion and from 2016 I wanted to professionalize this: since then I work in the form of small projects very ambitious on the photographic themes with focus on a professional standard implementation of the motifs. In spring and summer it is mainly motifs of the animal and plant world and between autumn and winter focus on landscape photography.

In recent years, I was then able to regularly achieve success in the context of international photo competitions, about which I also always report in the blog section. In the last few years, I was regularly successful in international photo competitions. Among others, at the "Asferico" and "Biophotocontest" in Italy, the international "Glanzlichter der Naturfotografie" in Fürstenfeldbruck , at the "Montphotocontest" in Spain, as well as the "GDT European Nature Photographer of the Year".

Since 2021 I also offer coaching and workshops, see also the coaching section of this website as well as the offer of my travel partner Brockmann Phototravel, with whom I offer workshops in the Algarve and Iceland, among other places.

All major trips and photo adventures abroad I experience together with my wife, Christina. She shares a passion for nature and has supported me in photography from the beginning. Meanwhile, she is also an avid photographer. We also created this website together.

My mindset towards photography is reflected in a quote from a well-known American landscape photographer, Ansel Adams (1902-1984):

"Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop".

Even if I currently produce significantly more images in practice and continue to work on the significance (...), I can now identify very well with this philosophy. Since I select my motifs much more critically and deal with fewer scenes for a longer time, completely different possibilities in photography are offered. In practice, this means that you often leave many good motifs to the left and the number of images produced drops significantly, but twelve really very good images a year, I continue to work on.

I wish all visitors a lot of fun while browsing the pictures and a nice day!

Many greetings, Thomas
